In conjunction with Lancashire County Council’s Heritage Learning Team lead by David Brookhouse.
Songs of Freedom & Equality
Exploring the history of democracy through the teaching of accessible, engaging songs celebrating champions of equality from past and present. From John Ball whose egalitarian example inspired the Peasant’s Revolt of 1381 to Sybil Phoenix whose words calmed tension during the race riots of the early 1980s.
Songs of Hope & Forgiveness
The stories of people from a variety of faiths, cultures and nationalities who overcame barriers to make a positive contribution to British society. From Jerome Caminada the innovative Italian immigrant detective who inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to create Sherlock Holmes to the story of Ghafoor Hussain, the Pakistani born Teesside aid worker who spent thousands of pounds of his own money to build a travelling food kitchen to help freed Syrian refugees in 2015.
Songs of Teamwork & Cohesion
Using sea shanties – the communal songs of the sea – to celebrate how for hundreds of years music has broken down barriers of language, culture and race to foster a sense of common collaborative endeavour.
